These setups combine a boiler with a renewable energy source such as solar thermal collectors or air-source heat pumps. During periods of low heating demand or when renewable input is sufficient, the boiler can remain idle, reducing gas usage. When demand spikes or when renewable sources are insufficient, the boiler activates to maintain comfort levels. This approach allows for more sustainable energy use while preserving the reliability and performance of traditional gas systems. Hydrogen-ready boilers are also being developed to future-proof gas boiler installations.
